First time building a new computer, need some help

Post  Flittzy on Tue Jul 21, 2015 11:46 am

I'm going for a super budget build to replace my laptop

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ChickenSteve/saved/F2pnTW

This is my partlist. Is there anything I'm missing? I have a monitor and an old hard drive with windows 7 on it, btw. Also have a mouse. If possible, could anyone predict the average fps I would get on full quality on this build?

I'm going to be using this computer for gaming whilst recording, editing videos, producing music, and voce acting, mostly (if that helps at all). Thank!

Make sure you upgrade that windows 7 to windows 10 :>

I have a GeForce GT 640, and it just about scrapes the edges of running well, so you might want to consider getting that; I don't think it's that expensive.

Well, I switched it to an AMD r7. It also has crossfire support, so I can probably get another one, later.

If you want to build a really tanky pc I recommend NVidia. But if you want the best value for money in performance I can defiantly vouch for AMD.

Just remember to keep the thing cooled my friend. If you want to get the most value for money and life out of your pc buying 1 or 2 premium fans or cooling systems is well worth the investment. You could have the best GPU CPU and RAM in the world but if that puppy aint cooled your gonna end up with a pile of plastic goop.

Do cases come with sufficient space and stuff for the fans? Also, I included one cpu cooler, but what should I use for the gpu?

Uhhh Power Supply?

Post  SirStabalot on Wed Jul 22, 2015 9:15 pm

I could be wrong here but I figure you should get a power supply as well. Also IMHO you are under buying on the gpu and cpu where other cuts could be made ie. case and storage. You have to think about what you want to use this for because if you are only going to be playing games cost cuts on the storage might no be so bad as long as you get something reliable that wont break and require subsequent purchases. This is my dream build as of right now for those interested: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/cr4zi8/saved/#view=6dNTwP (ignore the two wifi adapters)

the case comes with a 500w power supply. The whole build takes about 240w so I'm good on that.
