UGC Map Talk - Week 1 - Lakeside

Post  Carlotso25 on Sun Jan 26, 2014 6:59 am

Hey all, little bit late this week but I been sick, sorry ^^

Kickstarting the season officially, we got koth_lakeside. A lot of Spies I know approach this map differently and for good reason; It's VERY open. What I mean by this is that it can be pretty damn easy to be spotted when walking about or decloaking due to the lack of hideaway spots, ammo kits and direct flanks. So naturally there's a lot of different approaches.

I try to focus the Sniper a lot as I believe he is in most cases the carry on this map (with the exception of perhaps an amazing Demo). Combo picks are pretty difficult as can be seen a mile away by the Pyro and Engie.

I've found gunspying to be pretty damn viable. I'm just not that great at it.

Discuss!

Shoot the head and decloak near people is what I do here. If I can't get on the combo, just shoot at them from the balcony and keep all buildings down at all times.

Keep in mind: Dropping down from balcony. People tend to forget to spycheck sometimes, especially if a soldier/scout jumped in. By this, you can get some nice pick.

I find dropping down from balcony to be the worst thing I can do as a Spy. A Pyro/Engie/Medic or Heavy is almost always watching that balcony so I get very quickly called out and dealt with instantly.

I find much more success coming in from the sides, or going for a much closer decloak.

Decloaking close, just out of fov (during fights) helps here, tbh it's a pretty easy map for spy

I switch between stock + l'etranger or revolver/spycicle/dead ringer, depending on how aggressive they allow me to be and if I'm feeling confident with my aim

I play gunspy with my soldier and spawncamp their sniper and tele, and then i get combo picks when we need them.

I just focus the sniper and keep the tele down.
As Carlotso said, most teams will check the balcony for spies before walking underneath, however I've found that people don't check their backs if you've been called on the balcony due to them looking up.

I find that decloaking next to the obelisk from the other team, and walking onto their staircase nearest to the full-ammo-kit from the little edge around the obelisk is a great way to get close to a heavy/demo that are walking there.

Alternatively, jump onto their heads, decloak, and get a demo/soldier to help you out with a distraction/you distract the enemies as damage is dealt. Both work fairly well, not sure about high-high divisions though.

Here's a scrim by Inso with itsallgood on Lakeside. He favours a very heavy Solid gun playstyle for this map that keeps up him up for a long time and dishes out a lot of damage and picks. Very much nullifies the Pyro dealing with him too, who would have been a pain in the ass had he gone for his more conventional style of play I've known him to use.

I did the balcony tactic just in a scrim, and worked well. Med dropped.

More power to you then.

Just played like a whole day of Lakeside today. Went gunspy and oh my god, I love it. Had a wonderful drop on the med in the poolroom where he was dodging my feeble attempts at bodying and backstabbing, I whipped it out and found the cheese.

Really awesome way to play it I feel. Go forward, try to get some shots, DR behind, aggro the sniper, then potshot em from behind and go for opportunities + barely die because Spycicle and DR <3

And if they send Scouts or Sollies or whatnot to stop this shenanigans, an Invis or C&D life now and then can work wonders. They never expect it.

Intel is also critical on this map due to the point blocking your combo's view of the other combo.
You should be checking the med's uber type every time he respawns, and calling out locations of the combo.

Because AMD processors can't handle lakeside LOL
Sorry

+1 to the actual post though. People switch mediguns on lakeside very often, should always check when respawning and keep your team aware where the enemy combo is, especially if they are pushing with charge.

Just had my official on the map. Holy shit, Fully Stacked absolutely wrecked us. I got a couple nice picks, but not even to change the game. Shame.

Oh well, not entirely disappointed. Got the best team out the way.

BAH! terrible game, my medic still doesn't do antibackstab maneuvers or watches his back while standing still.
We knew T9 were going to go full-kritz but idk why we change to kritz also at mid game and got raped + they're fucking sniper raped everything. Almost every time I went for him I would HS him, and then before the 2nd shot we would quick-scope me, he had a 6ks life that he killed our demo, heavy, medic, or solely jumped across him and got quick scoepd, I got a HS into him right after and got quickscoped myself. Fucking prestige snipers man!

I also remember why I don't like to use spy-cicle with CnD - I wait for the stab and then knife melts at the last millisecond, at the same time selek triple-stabs my combo GG unlocks.

Game was casted on BlackOut so it wasn't entirely bad Smile

The game being casted by blackout makes it much much worse.
